6 hour team race in Brisbane by John Hamon
Six teams lined up to do battle in the inaugural Queensland 6 hour endurance handicap race.
Trackside RC fronted two RS5 teams:
Team 1 - Jeff Hamon, John Hamon and Scotty Craig Team 2 - Richard Chun, Michael Stavropolous (Victoria) and Daly May (South Australia).
The remaining teams represented FG, Lauterbacher and Contrast.
The event started at 4pm and finished without stoppage under lights at 10pm.
Team 1 took line honors as well as handicap honors recording 918 laps.
Team 2 completed the resounding RS5 victory by recording 856 laps and finishing 2nd outright as well as on handicap.
(the 3rd placed team recorded 823 laps).
The success was due to the overwhelming speed and reliability of the RS5 cars as well as the professional support provided by Tom Chun - Team Manager, Jack Chun and "BJ" who undertook the teams (infrequent but expert) own marshalling.
In fact neither RS5 team experienced any problems at all with their RS5's - the only problems encountered which caused a couple of unscheduled changeovers were due to servo failures and an engine mixture problem.
The organisation and management of both teams ensured that they were never once caught without a standby driver/car at the ready during the whole 6 hours - no doubt a key part of the success.
The other teams are seeking revenge at the next endurance race later this year - they want to change the format to one car per team only as they now
think that may be the way to beat RS5 - we have news for them.
